A year ago my downward facing dog looked more like an awkward geriatric turtle with a rounded back and bent limbs. I sought help with my practice and various injuries through yoga therapy sessions with Annie Adamson. Her deep knowledge, dedication and kindness undoubtedly shaped my transformation. Now I proudly roll out my mat in the front of class and when I glance to the mirrors on the wall beside me I see a person who would have been unrecognizable a year ago; one with straight legs, lifted arms and a flat back.
When I came to my first private session it was on the heels of having to leave a class halfway through because of knee pain. Over the course of the next few months and countless hours under her expert tutelage I deepened my yoga practice immeasurably and learned how to keep my body in optimal alignment and free of pain.
By choosing to embark on a path of radical healing with yoga therapy sessions you will not only be gaining a dedicated mentor and friend in Annie but an incredibly vibrant, diverse and supportive community in Yoga Union where perfect strangers approach you in the locker room to tell you how impressed they are with the growth of your practice. When I first started coming to Yoga Union, I was green to the ways of yoga. Annie took me under her wing and instilled me with the belief that I could transform my yoga practice and that yoga could transform my life. With the steadfast support of Annie and the amazing Yoga Union community I now proudly and confidently embody my yoga on and off the mat. I can say without reservation that I would not be the yogi or person I am today had Annie Adamson not entered my life.

I decided to try restorative yoga to treat a SLAP tear in my shoulder. I was skeptical at first. Could I actually “om” my way to a healthy shoulder? I also didn’t think there was such a thing as “restorative” yoga. But I was desperate, as surgery was looming and I was focused on avoiding it at all costs.
Then I met Annie. One of the first things she said to me was, “your breath will heal you.” I didn’t believe her. And then she walked me through a series of breathing techniques and I instantly understood what she meant: my spine started adjusting, and I filled my body with air in places I didn’t know existed. Three months later my shoulder is significantly improved, and surgery is now in the rear view.
Annie has helped me discover things about my body that are simple in concept but deep in restorative powers. She knows the body like a physician, but works it like a healer. She even transformed me from skeptic, to someone who is memorizing mantras. Om tryambakam.

Annie is an incredibly sensitive and knowledgeable teacher and healer. I originally came to Annie because of a low back injury. I had been in severe daily pain for approximately a year, during which time I was told by my chiropracter, physical therapist, and orthopedic specialist that the arthritis that was developing in my low back was natural for my age and I should expect a future of pain management rather than healing. I came to Annie’s yoga therapy as somewhat of a last resort. At our first appointment, Annie shifted my whole view of my condition. She assured me that I was not doomed to the future of pain that my other care givers had predicted. She taught me a few basic actions and poses that gave me immediate relief, and empowered me with the knowledge that I could heal my own body through yoga and breath. After only a few months of working with Annie, I was out of pain. After a few more months, I had a body that was stronger and more self-assured than ever before. I continue to see Annie to help me advance my asana practice, as well as my practice of being a self-aware human being. She is a joy to work with, and I deeply appreciate the impact that she has had on my life.

Annie is a gifted and intuitive healer and teacher. At the time I started seeing Annie, I was 3 months into a chiropractic overhaul to realign major spinal/shoulder misalignments caused by repetitive stress and a serious fall. I had been unable to practice yoga for several months due to pain and restricted range of motion, and most of my daily activities including work were excruciating. During my first appointment with Annie, she evaluated my structure and musculature and explained how she saw the patterns in my body at play with my injuries and how we would work with them. She did some therapy and then gave me a series of simple poses to do at home, every day, to begin re-patterning and healing myself. I left my first appointment with more range of motion and less pain in my shoulder than I had experienced in a very long time! I saw Annie for several more individual sessions and eventually was able to start taking group classes again. Annie tailored each session to my specific needs at each point of my healing process and provided me with clear and detailed instructions for what to do at home. Throughout my time working with Annie, she kindly and firmly explained the importance of my role in my own healing. I am infinitely grateful for Annie and the guidance she gave me, and would recommend her to anyone who is ready and willing to take their healing into their own hands.

Annie works intuitively and skillfully to find and cure misalignment in the body in a way that is very approachable. She guided me in feeling the shift in my own body, which is empowering me to take action in making small yet powerful changes in my everyday motions. Most of all Annie is teaching me how to become engaged in my own healing process.

I’ve benefited tremendously from Annie’s intuitive, intelligent, and practical teaching. After taking class with her for over a year, I decided to treat myself to a private session—and I’m so glad I did! Working one-on-one with Annie has helped me to take my practice to whole new level. She’s taught me simple yet powerful ways to support my asana and pranayama practices, as well as my overall physical and emotional well-being. Not only is Annie unbelievably knowledgeable about anatomy, physiology, and therapeutics, she is also incredibly kind, authentic and supportive—someone you really feel safe working with. The personalized teachings that I received in my first one-on-one session were so helpful that I decided to make private lessons with Annie a regular thing! I highly HIGHLY recommend her.
