Dr. Joshua Canter is a licensed naturopathic physician and acupuncturist. His approach to health integrates conventional, naturopathic, and Chinese medical treatment options to provide comprehensive care. He has a general practice and treats a wide range of conditions, so whether you are dealing with an acute illness or are struggling to manage a chronic condition, Dr. Canter has tools to help. It is his passion to guide clients to a state of wellness, regardless of diagnosis or disease progression.

Dr. Canter believes that health is more than just the absence of disease, and that creating and maintaining health is an active lifelong journey. In his practice, he focuses on nutrition, bodywork, and acupuncture to support his clients in their journey. When appropriate, he also utilizes a variety of other tools including herbal medicine, homeopathy, and pharmaceuticals to treat clients.

While Dr. Canter maintains a general practice, he has an affinity for treating orthopedic conditions and men’s health concerns. He has found the combination of naturopathic and Chinese medicine to be effective in treating the most common conditions in these populations.

Dr. Canter completed his six-year medical training at the National College of Natural Medicine (NCNM). He came to study naturopathic medicine and acupuncture after many years of exploring yoga and meditation. Prior to his medical training, Dr. Canter earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from the University of Richmond, a master’s degree in education at Hofstra University, and taught high school math and science in Vail, Colorado. While in Colorado, his passion for health and wellness grew and he was introduced to herbal medicine, the body’s myofascial network, and acupuncture. Interest in these topics are what eventually led him to Portland, Oregon and the National College of Natural Medicine.

When he is not reading up on the latest medical research, you’ll probably find Dr. Canter in a yoga class, playing a guitar, backpacking on a mountain with his dog, Appa, or relaxing at the coast.
